A day with Smudgie
5/25/21
For this project, we had the option to propose whatever we wanted to do whether it be a music video, film, or creating a song. I chose photography as I wanted to spend some more time with my cat Smudgie. My goal was to capture a day in her life which was extremely difficult as we were coincidentally pet sitting for 2 weeks. One of the things I really wanted to capture was her hunting as she always loved to hunt things from birds to gophers and lizards. Due to the circumstances, she hid in our garage and did what cats do best, lay around and be lazy. Her favorite spot to lay was on the hood of my dad's bronco. When she wasn't lying around, she'd be around your legs meowing for attention, and more importantly to her, food! Unfortunately, she just passed away this last week so these are the last pictures of her. No picture of Smudgie will ever do her justice as she was the sweetest and most loving cat. While under the circumstances I was in, I don't think I would've done it any other way. I'm glad we got to spend some quality time together and I was reminded that you should never take anything for granted, even your pets as they can leave you so quickly. Of all the pictures, I think the second and fourth are my favorites as she gave off the cat vibes of I don't care who you are just feed me and leave me alone and I'm royalty so pet me peasant. I chose black and white as the environment may be distracting to some, so I personally think this redirects the attention to my lovely model. I'm proud of these photos as I think many may say they aren't the highest quality while I say that beauty is in the eye of the beholder since the photos help capture who she is to me.
